The jump to communication
It was while Kathryn’s own daughter was benefiting from speech therapy that her passion and desire to know more about supporting effective communication within a variety of different people grew. This led to a change of career, from working as a Registered Nurse at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, to becoming a speech and language therapist.
Kathryn was finally able to jump in wholeheartedly to studying child-led speech therapy and communication at all levels, and in 2016, she graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a first-class Honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
Hobbies and interests
Kathryn has two older children and enjoys volunteering at her local church. She is most often found in the gym, taking part in fun group classes, and has just completed the Leeds Rob Burrow Marathon (her first marathon) in support of the MND charity. She also sponsors two children through the charity, Compassion UK.
Certifications and accreditations
Kathryn ensures she attends regular formal and peer supervision, accesses current research methods regarding ‘evidence-based practice’ and takes part in networking groups. She is particularly interested in child-led speech therapy, speech language and communication development in children aged 0 - 14 years, and autism language and communication development.
